Julie Bassler, co-owner of the "Cherry Ghost Coffee Shop" in downtown Washington, Indiana spoke to the class about the in's and out's of owning a coffee shop. Cherry Ghost was started 10 years ago by Brian and Vicki Sherman, who then sold the business to Eric and Julie Bassler 4 years ago. Julie refer's to the Cherry Ghost as "her happy place." Their objective is to create a "community feel." Julie remarked that at the Cherry Ghost, "You come as friends and you leave as friends." Even though you may disagree on politics and ideas, we are still friends. Julie also talked about the Cherry Ghost's Unique Value Proposition. The Cherry Ghost is the ONLY coffee shop in town that offers "organic" coffee and milk products. Scones, muffins and wraps are made by Yolanda's Restaurant, which are all natural and organic.

The students asked several questions ranging from the importance to location, to pricing coffee, to the challenges in owning two small businesses. We thank you Julie and the Cherry Ghost for hosting us today and a sincere thanks for complementary drinks this morning.
