"If you don't show up on time, I may not need you!" This statement by Tom Boyd of T.S. Boyd Grain was a wonderful life lesson to our students. Everyday, Daviess County CEO students are presented with life lessons such as these that are provided by entrepreneurs such as Tom Boyd. The valuable lessons are what makes this class unique.
T.S. Boyd Grain began in the early 1970's when Tom's father split the farm between Tom and his brother. Each sibling was given 300 acres of farm land. Today, Boyd Grain farms over 10,000 acres with approximately 4500 acres in popcorn, 5,000 acres in field corn and 500 acres in soybeans. As the farm grew, Boyd Grain added a trucking line that now has a fleet of over 100 trucks that transport not only grain but also commercial products. The company has also added a warehousing and grain storage divisions. When asked how Tom Boyd accomplished all of this, he said "you learn as you go." Tom mentioned that work ethic will always lead you to job promotions. Thank you Tom Boyd for a wonderful and educational morning.
