NASCO Industries, Inc. was the site of our first business visit of the year. The Neil A. Smith Co.(NASCO) began in 1979 when Neil Smith purchased the Uniroyal plant in Washington, Indiana. He did not want to see local citizens lose their jobs when the company decided to close the plant. In 1984, the plant became an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) which is 100% owned by all employees in the company. In 1988, Duke Energy and DuPont encouraged NASCO to develop high end protection garments along with the low-priced rain gear. NASCO is now the industry leader in protective outerwear in the petroleum and energy industry. You will see NASCO made products on electric company lineman and petroleum workers in the United States and Canada. Jeff Smith emphasized NASCO tagline with the statement "Made in the USA for the USA" indicating that their core market is electric and petroleum companies in the United States. Jeff also talked about the lifetime warranty on any product. If is gets ripped or a button snaps off, we will repair it and sent it back to the employee. Thank you to Jeff and John Richardson for taking the students on a highly educational tour and for creating a WOW on our first business visit.
