Graber Granite was started in 2014 to fill the void of a limited supply of custom granite and quartz countertops for the custom home building business. At that time, co-owner Larry Graber worked for another countertop manufacturer in the county that had more than enough work to keep them busy. Realizing that there was a true need for another shop, Larry and brother Loren, who had worked in the construction trades, decided to take that risk and startup their own countertop shop.

Today, they are at least 6 weeks from taking an order to delivering their countertops. Loren remarked that even during the Covid crisis last year, their business continued to grow. Larry demonstrated the laser system used to measure all their potential jobs. The drawing created from this process is then transferred to a computer drawing and then transferred to the cutting equipment in the shop area.

Loren explained the difference between both quartz and granite. One major difference is that quartz in engineered (man-made) from 10% resins and 90% ground up stone. Granite is a natural stone that is mined from the earth. Most granite originates from Brazil. Quartz sells at a higher price than granite and is more durable. When asked who is market segment is, Loren and Larry said that home builders from Evansville to Bloomington and in between send their clients to pick out the granite or quartz countertops.

Thanks for a great visit and for the t-shirts and donuts.
