On Thursday 2/2/23, the CEO class has the amazing pleasure of Bob Barron speaking with them. Bob shared a lot about his life growing up, and gave a lot of good advice to the class. He started off by sharing how he lived on a vegetable farm with no electricity and went to an extremely small high school with only 46 kids in the entire school. We spoke about how he had many jobs during his lifetime, and how he learned from all of them. At a young age, he learned about the butchering business from his grandmother. Then, he obtained ten acres of land and had his first farm experience. A little later in life, Bob got a job at a prison and gained tons of experience from it. Following that, he got a job at Farm Bureau. Not short after, he had the opportunity of helping with 4H electricity projects both county and state wide. This transitioned into getting a job at Whitney REMC. He worked there for a good portion of his life and kept moving up in job rankings, until he moved to work at the Daviess Martin REMC. He quickly got high up in the job rankings and eventually became the manager. He brought lots of items and lots of papers from back when he worked there to show the class. He gave the advice, “You have to learn how to communicate with other people as a manager.” In addition, Bob gave the class an acronym that he lives by. The acronym is P.O.D.C.C., which stands for planning, organizing, directions, coordinating, and control. Bob also encouraged the class to be involved in clubs and committees, because the experience will help you grow connections and stay active in the community. Thank you so much Bob for sharing your wise words of advice with the class!
