On Thursday 2/9/23, the class had the opportunity of going to Washington Alignment to speak with Sheldon Graber. Sheldon spoke to the class about a lot of different topics. He first explained how he owned Destination Yachts and the process of that being sold and where he is now in the Yacht industry. He then explained how he helped people start up businesses like Washington Alignment and Bridgestone Construction. He explained how he helped them out with their businesses because he had help when starting his, so he wanted to return the favor somehow. Reggie from Washington Alignment spoke on how grateful he is for everything Sheldon has done for him. He explained how he wouldn’t be where he is today without him. In addition, Josh from Bridgestone Construction spoke a little about how thankful he is for everything Sheldon has done for him. Josh talked about how his business is going and the successes of it so far. He explained how Covid actually helped his business, because it helped them find a niche. Another thing he said was, “Don’t be afraid to take advice/help from more experienced people.” Josh also gave the class the advice of, “When you make mistakes, learn from them.”

Sheldon gave the class the advice, “Before you can do anything, you need to figure out your overheads,” and also, “Don’t ever limit yourself to local business.” Both of these pieces of advice are extremely valuable to create a successful business. Another piece of business advice Sheldon stressed was how important networking is. Sheldon stressed that you have to travel, network, and get to know people to build your network up. He spoke on how his network has helped him with certain aspects of his life. He gained a lot of new opportunities and experiences through building his network when he was young. When asked about advice for the class members when starting their own businesses, Sheldon responded with, ”Do something you know and love.” Sheldon also gave the class advice about writing their business plans and how to make a good one. Sheldon even pledged to award the best business plan which will be judged by bankers, a scholarship, what a great gesture and support for this group of young entrepreneurs.

Thank you Sheldon, Reggie, and Josh for taking time out of your busy day to talk with the CEO class!
