On Tuesday Feb 28, 2023, the Daviess County CEO Cohort had the distinct pleasure to visit “The Country Garden”. Thank you Judy and Charlie Heller for being such a great host and supporter of the CEO program. The Country Garden is a branch of Heller’s Unlimited Inc, in which Charlie formed early on while operating the business for over 52 years. Charlie started mowing lawns at the age of 10, stating that he found all the cut troughs quickly to cross Washington getting from job to job. The couple expanded their business to include “The Country Garden” in 2008 which was a total fit to accent the mowing and landscaping operations. Charlie still owns and operates school buses, does snow removal and is involved in property management.
Charlie stated that the success of any business is based on quality service and having a quality product. He pointed out to the Cohort that even though we have many electronic and virtual ways to reach customers; you still have to have face to face contact and be willing to always follow up. Following up, is the main source in keeping those long lasting customer relationships. This will allow you to build off repeat customers and broaden your clientele. He stressed this by pointing out that he has been able to maintain a customer for over 48 years with these values. Always go the extra mile to follow up and show proven work.
Charlie and Judy both talked about diversification and that you have to be creative. Both stated that you have to “Ask for the sale!” Charlie made a comment that stuck with me, “People don’t know how much you know, until they know how much you care.” They said that communication is key when dealing with customers and employees, asking questions and knowing your customers. They commented that there are great ways to advertise but the best is still “word of mouth,” when you are delivering quality products and services.
Thank you Judy and Charlie for taking time out of your busy schedule to share with us and your continuing support to the program. Be sure to visit, The Country Garden, 2107 State St,, Washington In 47501 for all your gardening and memorial needs.
