On Friday May 5th, 2023 the Daviess County CEO was privileged to learn about and play a round of Golf at Putter’s Bay in Washington. We were fortunate to speak with Virginia Dayton, one of the owners of Putter’s Bay. Her and husband, Steve, started the business on a vision of Steve’s back in 2005. When trying to decide where to build their course, you have to consider location, location, location, the first attempt to build at the park was declined. But through lots of prayer, when one door closes another one opens. Other business owners were very helpful in landing their present location, as Virginia stressed location is a big deal especially for a novelty/entertainment business.
She gave the cohort a lot of good advice: start with what you have; take advice from others and don’t be afraid to ask for help; when you own your own business, it is inevitable that you will have to fire someone, but remember they are truly firing themselves; don’t limit yourself or get stuck in your position. Thank you Virginia for being such a hospitable host and allowing us to come and visit to learn and play. The course is beautiful.
