On Friday, December 1st, the Daviess County CEO Cohort had the privilege of meeting the dynamic duo, Blair and Todd Baker, owners of the iconic Bo-Mac's Drive Inn. A Shoals, IN landmark since 1957, Bo-Mac's gained new stewards in May of 2021 when the Bakers took the helm, driven by a dream and entrepreneurial spirit.
Blair and Todd shared their inspiring journey with the cohort, a story ignited by the need to fund a Family Dream of adoption. Their initial step into the food industry began with roles at Lark Ranch and even selling barbecue from their driveway. Despite working full-time, the Bakers recognized an opportunity with Bo-Mac's and, fueled by their newfound passion, took the bold step into entrepreneurship, challenging the cohort to consider, "Is the world telling you that you have to work for someone else?"
The couple candidly discussed the pros and cons of acquiring an existing business, emphasizing that they weren't just buying a business but inheriting a unique culture. Bo-Mac's, known for employing high school and college-aged young adults, serves as a building block for these individuals, reflecting the Bakers' commitment to nurturing the potential of their team.
Blair and Todd highlighted key lessons from their journey, sharing valuable insights with the cohort:
