Daviess County CEO Cohort Gains Firsthand Look at Indiana State Government in Action
On Tuesday, April 8th, the Daviess County CEO Cohort traveled to Indianapolis for an insightful visit to the Indiana Statehouse, where they experienced state government in action. The visit was made possible through an invitation from Representative Shane Lindauer, who the students had the opportunity to connect with earlier this year during the legislative short session.
Although the cohort hoped to meet with Senator Eric Bassler as well, he was actively participating in a session during their visit—a reminder of the full schedules and responsibilities held by public officials.
Following their meeting with Rep. Lindauer, the students took part in a guided tour of the historic and bustling Statehouse. The energy of the building—echoing with conversations, footsteps, and legislative activity—provided a vibrant backdrop for learning about the democratic process.
Throughout the day, students observed how state policies and laws are shaped, gaining a clearer understanding of the roles and responsibilities of lawmakers. The visit served as a real-world extension of classroom discussions about civics, leadership, and the impact of public policy on business and community life.
This experience gave the cohort valuable exposure to the decision-making processes that shape Indiana’s future. It also allowed them to better understand the challenges legislators face, especially during the condensed time frame of a short session.
As they returned home, the Daviess County CEO students brought back more than just facts about the legislative system—they carried with them a renewed sense of civic awareness and engagement. The trip to the Indiana Statehouse offered a meaningful perspective on how local communities connect to broader state governance, further enriching their journey as young entrepreneurs and future leaders.
