Daviess County CEO Cohort Visits JJ’s Concrete Construction
On April 30, 2025, the Daviess County CEO cohort visited JJ’s Concrete Construction, where they were warmly welcomed by hosts Nate, and Aaron. The visit provided students with a valuable behind-the-scenes look at the company’s operations, growth story, and approach to workforce development and innovation.
Founded in 2009, JJ’s Concrete began as a small operation with just four employees. Today, the company has grown to a team of 85, a testament to its steady expansion and strong community demand. Nate shared that this growth was largely organic—driven not by an elaborate business plan, but by the needs of the market and the company’s commitment to high-quality service.
During a presentation to the cohort, Nate emphasized the company’s belief in investing in its employees. He spoke about the importance of training and trusting skilled workers, noting that confidence and competence are essential for long-term success. He also discussed smart resource management, highlighting the practical value of using well-maintained pre-owned equipment to remain efficient without overspending.
The cohort was given a guided tour of the cement and precast plants, where they learned about the production process, from raw materials to the final product. They explained the science behind concrete formulation and the crucial role of testing protocols in maintaining quality standards. He also noted the many state and federal permits required for compliance—underscoring the complex regulatory environment in which the company operates.
Throughout the visit, students were exposed to both the technical and entrepreneurial aspects of the business. The experience served as a valuable lesson in adaptability, leadership, and the realities of managing a growing operation.
The Daviess County CEO cohort expressed sincere appreciation for the opportunity to visit JJ’s Concrete Construction. The insights shared by the company’s leadership left a lasting impression and offered meaningful lessons for the students as they continue their own entrepreneurial journeys.
