On Thursday, September 12th, the Daviess County CEO Cohort spent the morning at Jump-N-Jax, where they combined learning valuable business lessons with some well-earned fun. The visit was hosted by owner Scott Dyer, whose story and advice gave the group a whole new perspective on what it takes to be an entrepreneur.
Dyer started by sharing the importance of having a strong business plan, not just for today but for the future. He reminded the group to always “cross your t’s and dot your i’s,” pointing out that paying attention to even the smallest details can make or break a business.
His career journey was inspiring—having worked as a stonecutter, insurance agent, carpenter, and pastor before opening Jump-N-Jax in 2015, Dyer showed that success often comes through perseverance and adaptability. He explained that being a business owner means wearing many hats, joking that you have to be the “chief cook and bottle washer” to keep things running smoothly.
One of his biggest lessons was the importance of knowing your customers and your competition. His motivation for starting Jump-N-Jax was to fill a need in Daviess County: a safe, fun place where young people could hang out, play, and connect. That community-focused vision is what continues to make his business thrive.
Of course, the morning wasn’t all business talk. After the discussion, the cohort got to jump into the action with laser tag and trampolines. It was the perfect way to wrap up the visit—team bonding, laughter, and just a little friendly competition.
The trip to Jump-N-Jax left the cohort with more than just good memories. They walked away with practical advice, real-world insight, and a reminder that entrepreneurship takes hard work, creativity, and a willingness to dive right in. Thank you Scott for all that you do for these young adults.
