On Friday, October 3rd, the Daviess County CEO Cohort had the privilege of hosting Gracie Madison, a proud 2020 CEO Alumna. Gracie recently graduated from the University of Southern Indiana with a degree in Marketing and Public Relations and has begun her professional journey with Midwestern Engineers.
During her visit, Gracie shared valuable lessons and personal experiences that helped shape her college and career success, offering encouragement and insight to the current CEO students.
Gracie reflected on how the CEO program provided a strong foundation for her confidence, leadership, and professional skills. She highlighted several key areas that prepared her for success:
1.) Public Speaking: Developing the confidence to communicate ideas clearly and effectively.
2.) Networking: Building meaningful connections that opened doors to new opportunities.
3.) Real Business Experience: Applying classroom learning to real-world entrepreneurship.
4.) Connections: Creating relationships with mentors and peers who continue to influence her career.
5.) Organization & Event Planning: Gaining hands-on experience managing projects and events.
6.) Marketing: Understanding the power of messaging and value in business.
7.) Confidence: Trusting her abilities and embracing new challenges.
Gracie also emphasized the crucial role that internships play in helping students prepare for their careers. She explained that internships provide opportunities to:
*** Gain Real-World Experience: Apply classroom knowledge in professional settings.
*** Develop Skills: Strengthen communication, teamwork, and time management abilities.
*** Build a Network: Connect with mentors and industry professionals who can guide future career paths.
***Clarify Career Goals: Discover personal interests and identify the right career fit.
She encouraged students to actively pursue internships in college, noting that these experiences help bridge the gap between education and employment while making them stand out to future employers.
As the cohort prepares for their upcoming Trade Show, Gracie shared advice based on her own CEO experience. She encouraged students to present their products with clarity and confidence, asking themselves two key questions:
1. What makes your product special?
2. What problem does it solve for the customer?
In closing, Gracie offered a powerful reflection: college is a canvas—each student has the opportunity to paint their own experience. She urged the cohort to take initiative, get involved, and make the most of every opportunity along the way.
“College is a canvas—each student has the opportunity to paint their own experience.” — Gracie Madison, 2020 CEO Alumna
A heartfelt thank you to Gracie Madison for sharing her time, guidance, and encouragement with the next generation of Daviess County entrepreneurs.
