On Tuesday, October 21st, the Daviess County CEO Cohort welcomed Jared Miller, founder of Selling Table, who shared his remarkable and unconventional entrepreneurial journey, providing valuable insights for aspiring business leaders.
Jared's route to success has been far from linear. Beginning as a high school athlete, he briefly attended college before spending time in Christian ministry and eventually settling in Daviess County. He guided the cohort through a powerful exercise of asking "Why" five to six times before making decisions. His diverse career included automotive repair, investments, real estate, and mortgage lending, followed by a position in regional banking before his entrepreneurial drive inspired him to launch Selling Table in January 2022.
The Selling Table emerged from Jared's vision to support For Sale By Owner clients, demonstrating the value of adaptability and recognizing opportunities. His experience illustrates the unpredictable yet fulfilling nature of entrepreneurship.
Jared walked the cohort through essential components of real estate transactions, including appraisals, inspections, purchase agreements, deed recording, and connecting buyers with sellers. He also discussed his marketing evolution, explaining that while he initially invested in Google Ads, Facebook Ads, radio, and LinkedIn, word-of-mouth referrals ultimately proved to be his most effective tool.
His practical advice emphasized flexibility, conservative financial planning, and maintaining adequate startup capital. He challenged students to consider their purpose by asking, "What am I built and made for?" Most importantly, he emphasized the principle of always doing the right thing.
The cohort extends sincere gratitude to Jared Miller for his visit and lasting influence. His story provided a real-world perspective on entrepreneurship, reinforcing that success rarely follows a straight path—but with resilience and integrity, it's within reach.
