On January 21, 2026, the Daviess County CEO Cohort embarked on an enriching visit to the Grain Processing Corporation (GPC), where they were warmly welcomed by Plant Manager Shannon Dalton and Production Manager Jason Fry. The visit offered valuable insight into GPC’s vital role in manufacturing and its significant impact on the local community.
GPC operates with a “direct from the farmer” approach, purchasing corn locally and maintaining up to nine days of corn on-site when storage is at full capacity. Jason Fry highlighted the vision and dedication of Daviess County leaders who were instrumental in bringing the Grain Processing Plant to the area. Today, GPC stands as a cornerstone of the regional economy, employing 175 full-time team members and working alongside 75 contractors.
The plant processes more than 100 semi-loads of corn each day—approximately 100,000 bushels—demonstrating the impressive scale of its operations. The cohort was especially struck by the plant’s monthly utility costs, which further underscored the magnitude of the facility. A subsidiary of its parent company, KENT, GPC has been a trusted leader in the industry for more than 70 years.
GPC’s products serve a wide range of markets, including food, beverage, nutraceutical, personal care, and industrial applications. Through a steadfast commitment to quality and service, the company continues to transform the Midwest’s agricultural abundance into essential ingredients used worldwide.
Engineers Mike Hosford, Frank Wang, and John Essex provided an in-depth look at the plant’s milling process, explaining how every part of the corn kernel is utilized. They emphasized ongoing efforts to improve efficiency, sustainability, and innovation, showcasing GPC’s dedication to technological advancement.
The session also focused on building and sustaining a strong team. Key takeaways shared with the cohort included the importance of showing up consistently, being a good person, doing the right thing, understanding one’s role, and fostering fair and respectful relationships—all essential elements of a productive and successful workplace.
The Daviess and Martin County CEO Cohorts expressed sincere appreciation to Shannon Dalton, Jason Fry, Mike Hosford, Frank Wang, and John Essex for an informative, engaging, and inspiring experience.
