The Daviess County CEO cohort gained valuable business insights during their January 22, 2026 visit to Boyd and Sons Machinery, LLC/Bobcat of Daviess County. The dealership, authorized to sell Bobcat® equipment since November 2019, serves the Washington area with comprehensive new and pre-owned machinery inventory.
Austin Boyd, Kyle Gengelbach, and Frank Gengelbach led the facility tour, sharing Boyd and Sons Machinery's impressive growth story. Within just a few years of becoming a Bobcat dealership, the company has risen to become the top parts dealer in the United States. The organization has diversified beyond Bobcat sales to include Warrior rubber tracks, track press operations, aftermarket parts, used equipment, Lucas Oil products, service, an OEM trailer dealership, and attachments. Their sales network now spans nine states weekly.
The team emphasized several critical business principles. Communication stands paramount—bad news doesn't improve with time, so address problems directly. Manage customer expectations, view challenges as opportunities, and prioritize lasting relationships over immediate sales. Exceptional service means always being accessible. Gratitude matters, continuous growth is essential, and knowing who will support you during tough times proves invaluable.
Austin Boyd, a CEO program alumnus and current Board President, reflected on how the program shaped his professional outlook. He stressed supporting local businesses and the power of clear communication. Boyd and Sons Machinery maintains weekly cross-departmental collaboration, fostering unity and shared goals. Austin shared a cohort favorite: "Buy it right, and it's already half sold!"
The presenters offered additional wisdom on customer relations: avoid saying no when possible, do what others won't, and pay attention to small details. They cautioned that avoiding conflict only prolongs problems and emphasized that people remember how you made them feel. Austin's memorable advice—"Hire good people, and you will find a seat for them on the bus; just get them on the bus"—resonated with the group.
The speakers reinforced core values: advertising and brand awareness, universal respect, purposeful work, seizing opportunities, prompt phone responsiveness, and consistently delivering exceptional service.
The Daviess County CEO cohort thanks Boyd and Sons Machinery for their generosity, facility tour, and ongoing program support. The visit provided both practical business knowledge and genuine inspiration for the emerging entrepreneurs.
