On March 5, 2026, the Daviess County CEO Cohort had the opportunity to host Shane Lindauer at Antioch, where students gained a firsthand look at how public service, business, and community involvement intersect. Having just completed his ninth legislative session and preparing to step away from office at the end of his term, Lindauer brought both experience and perspective to the discussion.
Drawing from his journey in both the public and private sectors, Lindauer encouraged students to understand how the legislative system works and to take an active role in it. He explained that during a typical session, around 1,000 bills are introduced, yet only about 20% ultimately become law—highlighting the importance of patience, collaboration, and persistence in the process.
Throughout his visit, Lindauer emphasized several key ideas. He discussed the advantages and challenges of serving as a full-time versus part-time legislator, while encouraging students to be responsible stewards of the opportunities and resources they are given. He stressed the importance of educating oneself and staying involved, reminding the cohort that meaningful change often begins with informed participation.
Students also learned that career paths are rarely straightforward. Lindauer shared that adaptability and a willingness to grow are essential, whether in government or entrepreneurship. He encouraged students to pursue careers they are passionate about and to build strong networks, noting that relationships play a critical role in long-term success.
Above all, Lindauer challenged the group to be difference-makers—individuals who take initiative and positively influence their communities. His message left a lasting impression, inspiring students to lead with purpose, stay engaged, and approach their futures with confidence and determination.
Thank you to Shane Lindauer for investing time in the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.
