On April 17, 2026, the Daviess County CEO Cohort had the privilege of visiting Montgomery Medical Associates for a meaningful and inspiring discussion with Mary Jo and Dr. Holsopple. Their openness, honesty, and years of experience provided students with valuable lessons about leadership, perseverance, and personal growth.
During the visit, Dr. Holsopple shared the story of his professional journey and the unexpected turns that eventually led him to discover his true calling at the age of 40. Taking a leap of faith to move to the area and pursue new opportunities became a defining moment in his life. His message to the students was clear and encouraging: never be afraid to step outside your comfort zone, explore new possibilities, and believe in your own potential.
The conversation also focused heavily on entrepreneurship and business ownership. They spoke candidly about the realities of starting and operating a business, as well as his transition after selling the practice in March of 2025 and shifting from owner to employee. He encouraged students to think carefully when building a business by choosing a strong name, surrounding themselves with dependable people, and finding work they truly enjoy. He stressed the importance of patience, motivation, and persistence, reminding the cohort that success rarely happens overnight and that setbacks are simply opportunities to learn and improve.
They challenged the students to dream big and set goals that stretch beyond what feels comfortable. They emphasized that strong businesses are built on integrity, humility, empathy, and the willingness to continue learning throughout life. Students were reminded that entrepreneurship is far more than a typical “8-to-5” career and that true leaders are willing to do every job necessary, no matter how small. Whether it is making major decisions or cleaning bathrooms, every task matters when building a successful organization.
Another powerful takeaway from the visit was the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people. They shared that having trustworthy individuals who support your vision and values can make all the difference in both business and life. Competition, they explained, should not be feared but embraced as motivation to improve while remaining humble and grounded.
The Daviess County CEO Cohort sincerely appreciates Mary Jo and Dr. Holsopple for investing their time, wisdom, and encouragement into the students. Their inspiring words and real-world experiences left a lasting impact and provided the cohort with valuable guidance as they continue pursuing their entrepreneurial goals.
