The Daviess County CEO Cohort welcomed its first guest speaker of the year on August 11th as entrepreneur Bob Schultz traveled from Effingham, Illinois, to challenge students to think beyond their comfort zones.
Schultz, a successful entrepreneur with many different business ventures, generously took time out of his busy schedule to speak with the Cohort about the importance of growth. His message for the day was simple but powerful: “There is no COMFORT in the growth zone and no GROWTH in the comfort zone.”
Throughout his presentation, Bob encouraged students to “Engage Everyone” and step outside their comfort zones when meeting new people. He emphasized the power of a strong first impression through the three elements of a good handshake: a firm grip, eye contact, and a smile.
Bob shared several examples of CEO students who stepped outside their comfort zones and earned full scholarships, internships, and even job offers. He challenged the students to take conversations beyond simply talking about people and things and instead begin discussing ideas.
Students also learned how tools such as the SWOT Analysis and Dale Carnegie's “Walk Through the Neighborhood” activity can help them think of meaningful questions and better engage with others.
One of Bob's final pieces of advice to the Cohort was to “Choose a lifestyle, not just a career, that you love.”
Thank you, Bob Schultz, for challenging the Daviess County CEO Cohort and helping set high expectations for an exciting year ahead!
