On Friday, August 28, 2026, the Daviess County CEO Cohort spent the morning at Jump-N-Jax, combining valuable business lessons with some well-earned fun. Owner Scott Dyer welcomed the students and shared his entrepreneurial journey, offering insight into planning, perseverance, vision, and serving your community.
Dyer emphasized the importance of having a strong business plan and thinking beyond today. He encouraged students to “cross your T’s and dot your I’s,” reminding them that attention to detail can make a significant difference in business. He also challenged the students to think about their future and develop five- and ten-year plans.
When discussing marketing, Dyer explained that Jump-N-Jax uses some direct mail because the business is a destination. He encouraged students to make educated decisions, develop a vision, and not be discouraged by people who doubt their ideas. When he first considered opening Jump-N-Jax, he was told the business would not work because of the size of the local community. He chose to believe in his vision and move forward.
Dyer's career journey was also an inspiration. Before opening Jump-N-Jax in 2015, he worked as a stonecutter, insurance agent, carpenter, and pastor. He explained that being a business owner means wearing many hats—sometimes becoming the “chief cook and bottle washer” to keep everything running.
Another important lesson was knowing your customers and understanding the competition. Dyer created Jump-N-Jax to fill a need in Daviess County by providing a safe, fun place for young people and families to gather, play, and connect.
Of course, the morning wasn't all business. After the discussion, the cohort enjoyed laser tag and trampolines, providing plenty of laughter, teamwork, and friendly competition.
