On September 1, 2026, the Daviess County CEO Cohort welcomed Pete Parsons of Parsons & Associates, PC for a morning filled with practical business lessons, personal wisdom, and real-world experiences.
As a leader in the accounting profession, Pete gave students an inside look at why understanding the financial side of a business is so important. He emphasized that knowing the numbers isn't simply an accountant's responsibility—it is something every business owner and entrepreneur needs to understand.
Pete's message, however, went well beyond balance sheets and financial statements. His presentation focused on the people, decisions, habits, and values that ultimately shape a successful business.
One of the strongest themes throughout the morning was character. Pete stressed that integrity, discipline, and reputation matter in every aspect of business. He encouraged students to protect their reputation, surround themselves with good people, and develop a strong peer group that can provide encouragement, accountability, and different perspectives.
Pete also challenged students to understand that business is constantly changing. Entrepreneurs must be willing to adapt, maneuver through change, and create their own opportunities rather than simply waiting for opportunities to appear.

++ Protect Your Business – Be mindful of cybersecurity, especially when it comes to what you click and share online.
++ Take Care of Your Customers – Listen to feedback and remember that satisfied customers can become your greatest advocates.
When the conversation turned to marketing, Pete shared advice passed down from his father that has stayed with him throughout his career: “If you don’t like what we do, tell us; if you like what we do, tell others.” That simple statement demonstrates the importance of listening to customers, responding to feedback, and allowing satisfied customers to become part of your marketing.
