Daviess County CEO Cohort Experiences a Day of Learning and Inspiration at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. On November 2, 2026, the Daviess County CEO Cohort headed to Indianapolis for an unforgettable day of professional development, networking, and inspiration. Their destination was Gainbridge Fieldhouse, home of the Indiana Pacers, where students had the opportunity to explore the facility and hear firsthand from members of the Pacers organization about careers, leadership, and what it takes to succeed in today's business world.
A highlight of the visit was an engaging panel discussion featuring Pacers representatives Malik McCord, Alyssa Nelson, and Tony Bello. The conversation provided students with an inside look at the many responsibilities involved in operating a professional sports organization, along with valuable advice that extends far beyond the basketball court.
Joining the discussion were 43 sports marketing students from the University of Cincinnati, ranging from freshmen to graduate students. With both groups eager to participate, the question-and-answer session became a friendly competition. The University of Cincinnati students contributed 12 questions, while our 21 Daviess County CEO students asked nine. We couldn't be prouder of our students for stepping forward, engaging in the conversation, and demonstrating the confidence and competitive spirit that entrepreneurs need!
Throughout the panel, several important themes emerged. One message that stood out was, "Trust the process; you have people around you." Students were reminded that success doesn't happen overnight and that building relationships, learning from others, and surrounding yourself with supportive people are essential parts of the journey.
The Pacers representatives shared several valuable lessons and challenges for students to consider:
** Always look for improvement. Ask yourself, "How can I make what I did last time even better?"
** Create memorable experiences. The Pacers strive to create "Disney Moments" for fans and families, giving them memories that last long after the final buzzer.
** Manage your highs and lows. Stay level-headed, remain professional, and don't allow emotions to control your decisions.
** Understand the importance of confidentiality. Trust and discretion are critical responsibilities in the business world.
** Focus on the experience you provide others. Every interaction matters, and every experience offers an opportunity to learn.
** Give yourself room to grow. Students were reminded, "You have time to figure out your path." There is no need to have every answer right away.
** Don't be too hard on yourself. Learn from mistakes, make adjustments, and keep moving forward.
** Start networking now! Put yourself out there, meet people, build relationships, and take advantage of opportunities to connect.
** Don't limit yourself. Be confident in your abilities and remain open to possibilities you may not have considered.
Another important takeaway was the value of recognizing your personal strengths and transferable skills. Students were encouraged to identify what makes them unique, discover the passions that give them purpose, and become comfortable communicating their value through a strong 30-second elevator pitch. Adaptability, teamwork, communication, resilience, and taking care of yourself were also emphasized as important ingredients for long-term success.
The Daviess County CEO Cohort is incredibly grateful to the Indiana Pacers organization for opening its doors and investing time in the next generation of business leaders. The opportunity to learn directly from professionals working in the sports and entertainment industry provided students with perspectives they can carry into their own careers and entrepreneurial adventures.
Following the panel discussion, the group enjoyed watching the Indiana Pacers in action, bringing a memorable day to a close. What began as a trip to a professional basketball arena turned into a much bigger lesson about relationships, personal growth, confidence, and creating meaningful experiences for others.
A huge thank-you to the Indiana Pacers for the hospitality, behind-the-scenes access, and outstanding presentations. Our students returned home with new connections, fresh perspectives, and plenty of inspiration to put into practice. It was truly a day that demonstrated how learning opportunities outside the classroom can make a lasting impact!
